Why Kate Middleton's Latest Outfit is Turning Heads at Trooping the Colour

Share Post

Kate Middleton paid tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, while wearing a powder blue Catherine Walker coat dress to Trooping the Colour Saturday.

The look bore a striking resemblance to another Catherine Walker outfit worn by husband Prince William’s mother during the future king’s first Easter service in 1987. Like Middleton’s, Diana’s ensemble featured a light blue shade with a white trim.

The Princess of Wales accessorized her ensemble with a matching Philip Treacy hat, the Irish Guards Brooch and her pearl floral Cassandra Goad earrings — a pair she wore earlier this year at the installation of the new Archbishop of Canterbury and first debuted in 2018 during the christening of her youngest son, Prince Louis, Town and Country reported.

She also wore a pair of white Gianvito Rossi heels for the royal procession at Buckingham Palace marking the monarch’s birthday.

Middleton also matched with her children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, as they traveled in a horse-drawn carriage.

The boys wore matching baby blue ties with their suits, while Charlotte wore a white Alessandra Rich dress with a coordinating ribbon in her hair. She also had blue accents on her dress.

King Charles and Queen Camilla also rode in a horse-drawn carriage in matching red ceremonial attire, with Charles wearing a medal-adorned military uniform and Camilla a red coatdress and feathered navy hat.

Prince William, Prince Edward and Princess Anne all rode on horseback behind the king’s carriage, taking part in the traditional royal procession through central London.

Middleton, 44, has been steadily returning to her major royal duties in recent months one year into her cancer recovery. She took her first overseas trip since her diagnosis, a solo royal visit to Italy earlier this year, with husband Prince William declaring he was “incredibly proud” of her.

Earlier this month, she attended an event with Cancer Research, where she wore a heart-printed Rodarte dress and meaningful jewelry, and visited with a mom celebrating the end of her own cancer treatment.

Middleton made her grand return to public duties at Trooping the Colour in 2024, where she chose a white Jenny Packham dress with black accents, months after announcing her diagnosis.

In 2025, she twinned with Princess Charlotte, with mom in an aquamarine Catherine Walker coat dress with white lapels and daughter in a paler dress with a white sash.

In the past, Middleton has almost exclusively worn Alexander McQueen to the annual event, making her debut in 2011 after her royal wedding in a fittingly bridal white coat dress by her wedding dress designer.
