Hollywood Honors David Beckham: The Moment That Moved Everyone

Share Post

He’s so Hollywood.

David Beckham — widely regarded as one of the most accomplished soccer players of his generation — received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, with wife Victoria Beckham and close pal Tom Cruise serving as guest speakers.

Cruise, a fellow Walk of Famer, spoke first, highlighting his friend’s impressive career.

“Long before the trophies, the sold-out stadiums, the global fame, the recognition, there was a young boy with a dream — and the determination and discipline to earn everything that followed,” the actor, who looked dapper in a plum suit, said at the podium.

“That’s why this feels like such a fitting place for us to celebrate him. His is a Hollywood story. A boy who believed in something bigger than himself, had to work for every opportunity he received and went on to influence his sport, shape culture around the world and create opportunities for generations who followed.

“And for all the records, achievements and recognition, the thing that has impressed me most is that success has never changed who he is. The same core values that got him there are the ones he lives by today.”

After shouting out Victoria and the “beautiful family” the couple created, Cruise, 63, concluded, “You earned this, and nobody — and I mean nobody — deserves it more, my friend.”

Victoria — who stunned in a pewter, figure-hugging wrap dress — began her speech with a joke.

“Growing up in England, the Hollywood Walk of Fame was one of those iconic things that you only saw in films — a way of immortalizing people who had succeeded in their fields and truly left their mark. So naturally, I assumed I was coming here today to receive my star for my part in that iconic cult classic ‘Spice World: The Movie.'”

Victoria (aka Posh Spice) went on to praise her husband’s “vision,” “determination” and “extraordinary amount of hard work,” as he undeniably helped elevate the global popularity of soccer through both his on-field success and international influence.

“Most of you will know David as a sportsman, a businessman and an activist, but behind those titles is a man who has always been defined by his character. His drive, his determination and his ambition are known to everyone, but I’d also like to acknowledge his kindness, his loyalty and his commitment to the people that he loves,” the pop star-turned-fashion designer, 52, gushed.

When it was David’s turn to take the podium, he called Cruise “the greatest movie star of our time” and revealed, “The fact that mine and Victoria’s first movie date was ‘Jerry Maguire’ is a pretty mad full-circle moment.” (The famous film, which stars Cruise, hit theaters in December 1996.)

David — who went with a crisp navy suit for the momentous occasion — also thanked the Oscar winner for “welcom[ing]” him and Victoria to Los Angeles nearly 20 years ago and being a “loyal friend” to them ever since.

David, 51, went on to credit retired basketball legend Michael Jordan with inspiring his passion and trajectory.

“He is the reason that I wore No. 23, and he showed [me] that you could be more than just an athlete,” the UK native marveled.

He made sure to thank his teammates, friends and professional associates “for always being in [his] corner and cheering [him] on.”

“Most of all,” he continued, “I want to thank my incredible family, my parents and my sisters, who always supported my dreams. Victoria, my amazing wife for almost 30 years, without whom none of this would be possible or enjoyable.”

David then gave “all [his] beautiful children” — sons Brooklyn, 27, Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, as well as daughter Harper, 14 — the biggest shout-out of all, noting that they are the “reason” he gets out of bed in the morning.

“Kids, I hope you bring my grandchildren here one day and tell them about a boy who dreamed big,” he concluded. “To make you all proud is my greatest achievement. I am so grateful for you all. I love you.”

Afterward, David received his star and posed for pictures. Then he, Cruise and Victoria interacted with the swarms of fans who had gathered around the ceremony site.

David and Victoria’s longtime friend Eva Longoria was present for the big moment. The actress looked elegant in a plum wrap dress.

While Romeo, Cruz and Harper were all in attendance as well, Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz — who are estranged from his family — skipped the Los Angeles event despite living only 20 minutes away.

Page Six confirmed Wednesday that Brooklyn and Peltz, 31, would not be at David’s star ceremony.

One source told us that even if Brooklyn — who unleashed on his mom and dad in a bitter Instagram rant in January — did want to reconcile, Peltz would stand in the way.

Another source familiar with the rift said Brooklyn is the driving force behind his decision to cut his parents and siblings out of his life.

He and Peltz have not seen his family since Christmas 2024. They notably did not attend David’s 50th birthday celebration in London last May.

In an interview with Variety ahead of Friday’s ceremony, David shut down a question about the “strife” among the Beckham clan.

“To be honest, I’m sorry to stop you there, but that’s a private matter,” he replied. “That’s the one thing that I don’t want to talk about.”

At the beginning of the wide-ranging sit-down, David spoke about the honor of receiving his Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

The scene was mayhem.

“I actually can’t believe it,” he told the outlet. “I remember walking in Hollywood and looking for the stars, and all these years later, knowing that I’ll have my own star, it’s a huge honor. America has always meant so much to me.”

The English athlete explained that “all he cared about” growing up was becoming a successful soccer player, insisting he “didn’t care about the fame, the wealth, all the admiration” that came with it.

“So now, having a star, becoming a ‘sir,’ all these things that have come with the career that I’ve had, I feel very lucky,” he added in reference to being knighted by King Charles III last year.

Elsewhere in the conversation, David claimed he’s “never really had any offers” to act in Hollywood, though he noted he prefers to “stay in [his] lane.”

The father of four also shared that he’s been pushing Victoria to perform again with the rest of the Spice Girls, who reportedly canceled their planned 30th anniversary reunion in March.

“I think they’re all doing their own thing and are busy,” David said, “but I’m always hoping for the girls to get back together and perform at some point.”
