Kyle Busch's Legacy Celebrated at Indy 500 Days After His Death

Late NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was honored at the Indy 500 following his passing. The tribute took place during the race on May 24, as his name appeared on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's scoring pylon.

During the race, an announcer acknowledged Busch's memory while drivers exited turn four on lap 18. The moment was shared by INDYCAR on FOX through their X account, featuring a caption commemorating Kyle Busch.

Additionally, driver Romain Grosjean honored Busch by driving a No. 18 car with similar font styling to what Busch used while racing for Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR.

Kyle Busch's Illness and Passing

Kyle Busch became unresponsive while testing in a racing simulator on May 20 and was hospitalized shortly after. His family released a statement regarding his severe illness, requesting privacy as he received treatment.

A 911 call revealed that hours before his death, Busch experienced shortness of breath and was coughing up blood. NASCAR confirmed his passing at age 41. He is survived by his wife, Samantha, and their two children.

Circumstances Surrounding His Death

The family confirmed that Busch died from pneumonia that progressed into sepsis, leading to rapid complications. His final race was the NASCAR All-Star Race on May 17 at Dover International Speedway.

NASCAR expressed grief over his loss, offering condolences to his family and the motorsports community. Busch had been scheduled to compete in upcoming races but withdrew due to hospitalization.
