Billy Porter Wonders Why Met Gala Invitations Stopped After 2019
Billy Porter has confirmed he will not be attending the 2026 Met Gala since he has not been invited. He shared this news during an appearance on SiriusXM's Bevelations.
No Invitation Since 2019
Porter, age 56, revealed that his only Met Gala appearance was in 2019 when he was invited by Ryan Murphy. At the event, which celebrated the "Camp: Notes on Fashion" exhibit, he made an entrance as a golden phoenix.
The actor noted that he was also not invited to last year's Met Gala, which focused on Black dandyism. Porter expressed contentment with the situation, saying it doesn't bother him anymore.
Upcoming Met Gala Theme
The upcoming Met Gala is scheduled for May 4 in New York and will feature a "Costume Art" theme. The event will be cochaired by Beyoncé, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman, and Anna Wintour.
Andrew Bolton of The Metropolitan Museum of Art highlighted that the gala aims to emphasize fashion's significance in art museums.
Exclusive Guest List
The guest list for the Met Gala is closely guarded and typically curated by Anna Wintour and her team at Vogue. Wintour mentioned that each event has unique and meaningful elements reflective of contemporary times.
