Fernando Mendoza's Success and Philanthropy

Quarterback Fernando Mendoza is known for his achievements on the field and his charitable efforts off the field. He led Indiana University's football team to their first Big Ten Championship since 1967, and their first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship in January 2026.

Together with his brother Alberto, Fernando raised funds for the National MS Society, inspired by their mother Elsa's battle with multiple sclerosis. They collaborated with local restaurants in Bloomington, Indiana to create menu items benefiting the cause, raising nearly $375,000 so far.

NFL Draft Choices

Fernando decided to enter the NFL Draft from his home in Florida rather than attending in Pittsburgh. He shared on the Rich Eisen Show that staying home was preferable for him and his family.

Elsa Mendoza's Multiple Sclerosis Journey

Elsa Mendoza, a former University of Miami tennis player, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about 18 years ago but only disclosed this to her sons years later due to concerns over their youth at the time.

After suffering a skiing accident about 10 years ago and further health complications following Covid, Elsa finally discussed her condition with her sons five years ago when hiding it became impossible.

Treatment and Support

Elsa underwent chemotherapy as part of her treatment for MS. Despite her health challenges, she acknowledges the unwavering support of her sons, particularly Fernando, who has remained steadfast by her side throughout her battle.
