Girlfriend's Bath Turns Tragic After Finance Argument Escalates
A Texas man, Donevyn Bowie, has been sentenced to 38 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of his girlfriend, Shamiah Allen. The incident occurred during an argument over finances while she was taking a bath.
Details of the Crime
The shooting took place on December 15, 2023, at Ridgeline at Rogers Ranch Apartments in San Antonio. Authorities responded just after 9:30 p.m., discovering Allen with gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
Bowie was arrested at the scene and initially claimed the shooting was accidental. However, he later accepted a plea deal before his trial began.
Legal Proceedings
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Raymond Saldaña and Luis Echeverria from the Family Violence Division. Judge Jennifer Peña handed down the sentence following Bowie’s guilty plea.
The investigation confirmed that Bowie and Allen were involved in a romantic relationship at the time of the incident.
Impact and Aftermath
District Attorney Joe Gonzales emphasized that the sentence ensures accountability and supports justice for victims of domestic violence. He described the act as a senseless tragedy born out of anger.
Allen's obituary notes her origins in Atlanta, Georgia, with her funeral held at Anthony L. Watkins Funeral Home Jonesboro Chapel. Not much is known about their relationship or if there was any prior history of domestic violence.
The decision to accept a plea deal likely resulted in a lighter sentence for Bowie than he might have faced had he been found guilty at trial. In Texas, first-degree murder sentences range from 5 to 99 years in prison.
