Tragic Shooting in New Jersey
A New Jersey man, Isiah M. Roberts, admitted to killing a 9-year-old girl, Sequoya Bacon-Jones, in 2022 after opening fire aimed at a "family nemesis" during a dispute.
Incident Details and Legal Proceedings
Roberts was 19 years old at the time of the incident and has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter. The shooting occurred due to a feud that started on Facebook the same day, according to his lawyer John W. Hartmann.
The altercation escalated when Roberts was called to Kingsbury by his family. He armed himself with a gun and confronted someone he believed was armed.
Impact on Family and Sentencing
Bacon-Jones's mother recalled the tragic events, noting her daughter did not cry but reached for her as she lay on the ground after being shot. She described the argument leading to the shooting as "stupid Facebook stuff."
Sacha Bacon-Jones expressed grief over losing her "little girl," lamenting the memories that can no longer be made.
Roberts will serve between 15 and 18 years in prison following a plea deal. His sentencing is set for June.
