A mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, early on Sunday, April 19, resulted in the deaths of eight children aged 1 to 14. The suspect is dead, and a total of ten people were involved in multiple shootings across several homes.

Shooting Details

Police believe the shooter had familial connections to some or all of the victims. The incident was described as "domestic in nature" by Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon.

The shootings occurred at two homes on the same street and another in the neighborhood. The gunman fled on foot, carjacked a vehicle, and was eventually shot and killed by officers.

Investigation Ongoing

The names of the victims have not been released, but several injured individuals are hospitalized. Louisiana State Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspect's death due to police involvement.

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed disbelief over the event's occurrence and emphasized that investigators are gathering evidence from multiple scenes to understand what happened.

Community Impact

Mayor Tom Arceneaux remarked on how such a tragedy affects the entire community. Both he and Gov. Jeff Landry expressed condolences and gratitude for law enforcement efforts.

The shooting is noted as the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. since January 2024.
