Paulina Porizkova Reveals How Modeling Shaped Her Obedience to Commands

Share Post

Paulina Porizkova opened up about her experiences growing up with a demanding mother and her early modeling career, detailing instances of feeling obligated to comply with uncomfortable requests. She shared these reflections on the "Twenty Good Summers" podcast with her fiancé Jeff Greenstein.

Early Life and Modeling Begin

Porizkova explained that from a young age, she felt pressure to please her mother, who she believed did not pay much attention unless she performed well in public settings. When she started modeling at 15, this expectation continued as she felt compelled to adhere to directions without question.

Searching for Validation

The former supermodel highlighted how gaining approval often involved uncomfortable compromises, like removing clothing during photo sessions. This quest for validation extended into her adult life until she learned to embrace herself as she aged.

Changes With Age

Porizkova discussed how reaching her 50s brought freedom from external expectations. She expressed that women's invisibility past a certain age allows them to prioritize their own identity over others’ assumptions.

Earlier this year, Porizkova also addressed the sexual harassment she faced within the fashion industry at an early age. She recalled meetings with men who made unwelcome advances in various settings and realized it was wrongly accepted as part of her job.
