Bethenny Frankel Opens Up About Her 'Frightening' Kidney Disease Struggle

Share Post

Since announcing her chronic kidney disease diagnosis in January, Bethenny Frankel has been encouraging her fans to get tested. The "Real Housewives of New York City" alum shares the symptoms that led her to seek medical advice.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

Frankel, 55, described experiencing severe dehydration, dizziness, and low blood pressure over the years. These symptoms intensified, prompting her to investigate further. Online resources led her to suspect Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which pushed her to consult a doctor. She was ultimately diagnosed with stage 3a chronic kidney disease, indicating mild to moderate loss of kidney function.

Mental and Emotional Impact

Receiving a formal diagnosis was overwhelming for Frankel. She expressed feeling vulnerable and fragile but emphasized the importance of staying healthy for her daughter, Bryn.

Managing Health with Lifestyle Changes

Frankel stressed that lifestyle choices could help manage stage 3a chronic kidney disease. Although she does not yet require medication, she focuses on hydration by turning water into a functional drink with various additives like Celtic salt.

The Skinnygirl founder aims to remain vigilant about her health without becoming overly concerned.

Healthy Eating Advocacy

As a natural foods chef and entrepreneur in the nutritious food sector, Frankel promotes making smart dietary decisions. Recently featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue at age 55, she has partnered with Yasso to promote their new frozen Greek yogurt line “Spoonables.” The product offers an ice cream-like experience with high protein content and low calories.

Frankel praises the taste and quality of "Spoonables," noting that it provides a healthier alternative amidst often misleading food marketing targeted at teens and young adults.
