Peter Alexander Leaves NBC After Being Passed Over for Top Anchor Roles

Share Post

Peter Alexander is leaving NBC News after nearly 22 years, including roles as a White House correspondent and co-anchor of "Saturday Today." He is moving to MS Now for a weekday anchor position.

Reasons for Departure

Alexander cited the demanding schedule and a desire to spend more time with his family as primary reasons for his departure. Additionally, he was reportedly frustrated by being passed over for top anchor positions at the network.

Career Moves at NBC

Alexander took over the "Saturday Today" anchor seat from Craig Melvin in 2018. With recent promotions of other colleagues like Tom Llamas and Kristin Welker to prestigious roles, opportunities for top positions at NBC seemed limited for him.

A New Beginning

His last day at NBC will be on Saturday, after which he will start an 11 a.m. weekday anchor role at MS Now. Alexander confirmed his departure on air, stating he wants to balance his personal and professional life better.

Alexander shared that he has missed significant personal time due to work commitments: "I've been away from home more than 80 nights in the last seven months." His plan includes spending more quality time with family before his daughters grow up.

Chloe Arensberg and Matt Carluccio praised Alexander’s contributions in a memo, stating he has been a trusted presence across NBC News.
