Special Ed Teacher Faces Disturbing Abuse Allegations Inside Classroom
A special education teacher in Spokane, Washington, is facing serious charges after being accused of inappropriate conduct with a student. Mahayla Benavides, 32, has been charged with child rape and molestation and has pleaded not guilty.
Allegations and Investigation
Court records reveal that authorities accuse Benavides of repeatedly assaulting a 10-year-old student at Stevens Elementary School. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred frequently, sometimes up to five times daily.
The investigations found videos on Benavides' phone presumed to show explicit activities, including assaults. The child claimed Benavides warned him about revealing the incidents to protect her job and mentioned receiving brownies from her.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Benavides was arrested and remains in Spokane County Jail. Her bond is set at $500,000, with a trial scheduled for May.
Response from the School District
The Spokane School District acted quickly by removing Benavides from access to students upon learning of the allegations. They cooperated fully with law enforcement, helping prevent further harm.
