Jessie Buckley won the 2026 Oscar for Best Actress for her role in "Hamnet." Her performance as Agnes Shakespeare earned her accolades throughout the awards season.

Buckley's Emotional Acceptance

During the Oscars ceremony, Buckley was emotional as last year's winner, Mikey Madison, announced her name. She dedicated the award to mothers, acknowledging them on UK's Mother's Day.

Buckley expressed gratitude to fellow actresses saying, "I’m inspired by your art and your hearts and I want to work with every single one of you." She also thanked her family and husband Freddie Sorensen passionately.

Award-Winning Performance

Buckley portrayed a bereaved mother married to William Shakespeare, played by Paul Mescal. Despite his snub in the Best Actor category, Buckley gained recognition from various awards including Critics Choice and Golden Globe.

Competing Against Strong Contenders

The Oscar competition included Rose Byrne for "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You," Renate Reinsve for “Sentimental Value,” Emma Stone for “Bugonia,” and Kate Hudson for “Song Sung Blue.”

Buckley mentioned relying on imagination to portray deep grief over the loss of her character’s son. She described the challenge of depicting such profound sorrow.
