Share Post

A Milwaukee bus driver, Montrell Pharm, has been sentenced to two years in prison for a Christmas Day incident where he fell asleep and caused the death of 79-year-old Robert Clemons. The accident occurred as Pharm drove a bus, resulting in Clemons' death when he was hit while assisting his grandson with vehicle repairs.

Sentencing Details

Pharm, 53, pleaded no contest to charges of negligent homicide and reckless driving causing great harm. Milwaukee County Court Judge David Swanson sentenced him to two years in prison for each charge, to be served concurrently. Following his release, Pharm will be under extended supervision for three years.

Incident Description

The crash happened late at night near North 47th Street and Villard Avenue. Police found a damaged bus and truck at the scene and a trail of blood leading to where the bus stopped. Witnesses reported that Clemons was struck and dragged by the bus while attempting to get the driver's attention.

Investigation Findings

Surveillance footage showed Pharm frequently closing his eyes or appearing asleep while driving. The footage captured the bus moving erratically before colliding with parked vehicles and hitting Clemons. During an interview, Pharm mentioned having worked long shifts without sufficient rest leading up to the crash, suggesting his exhaustion contributed to the incident.

In court, Pharm expressed remorse towards Clemons' family. A prosecutor emphasized concern over Pharm's failure to assess the situation immediately after the impact.
