Quincy Jones Estate Sells Music Catalog Including Michael Jackson Hits
The Quincy Jones estate has sold a significant portion of its music catalog to the investment firm HarbourView. The acquisition includes rights to some of Jones' most famous works, spanning jazz, pop, and R&B.
Key Albums and Tracks
The deal covers Jones’ stakes in three iconic Michael Jackson albums he produced: "Off the Wall," "Thriller," and "Bad." It also features Jones' renowned instrumental composition “Soul Bossa Nova,” recognized as the theme from the Austin Powers films.
Jones’ Legacy and Influence
Quincy Jones passed away in November 2024 at 91 years old. His career was highly influential, extending beyond music into television, where he played a role as an executive producer on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and co-founded Vibe Magazine.
The catalog's reach extends to major songs that sampled Jones’ work, such as Ye’s 2007 single “Good Life” and Tupac Shakur’s 1996 hit “How Do U Want It.”
Protecting a Musical Legacy
Jones’ daughter, Rashida Jones, commented on her father's widespread influence across various media platforms. She highlighted HarbourView’s understanding of his legacy and their capability to preserve it for future generations.
HarbourView will also collaborate with the estate on managing Jones' name, image, and likeness while continuing to safeguard his legacy against misuse involving artificial intelligence.
