Sarah Michelle Gellar and 'Buffy' Reboot Plans

The reboot was set to be developed with Sarah Michelle Gellar in talks for involvement. Searchlight TV and 20th Television had referred to the new series as "the next chapter in the Buffyverse."

The show was being written by "Poker Face" creators Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. Dolly Parton, who produced the original series, was also expected to return as a producer. Gellar expressed her admiration for Parton, saying she would always take a call from her.

Streaming Plans for the Reboot

The series was intended to stream on Hulu, which would have continued the beloved franchise's legacy on a popular streaming platform.

Reasons Behind the Cancellation

Gellar confirmed on Instagram that Hulu had decided not to proceed with the reboot. She expressed gratitude toward filmmaker Chloé Zhao for reigniting her passion for Buffy but noted Hulu's decision not to continue with "Buffy: New Sunnydale." Despite this setback, she reassured fans of her enduring connection to Buffy's legacy.
