Tourists Face Arrest in UAE Over Sharing Iran Conflict Videos Online

Share Post

The United Arab Emirates is arresting individuals for social media posts related to the Iran conflict, with at least 21 people charged under cybercrime laws. The crackdown targets sharing or possessing digital content about Iranian attacks.

Cybercrime Charges

Detained in Dubai's CEO, Radha Stirling, highlighted that even minor online actions can result in detention in the UAE. This applies even if posts are made outside the country.

Case Examples

A 60-year-old British tourist was charged after filming a video linked to the attacks; he complied by deleting it when requested. An influencer received different treatment, being asked to delete and correct their post instead of facing arrest.

Diverse Incidents

A Filipina domestic worker was detained near the Burj Al Arab after authorities found a related photo on her phone. Additionally, a Vietnamese sailor in Fujairah was arrested for allegedly sharing footage recorded outside UAE jurisdiction.

These detentions align with ongoing regional tensions following Iranian retaliation against joint U.S. and Israeli military operations initiated in late February.
