Animal Seizure and Charges

A woman in Michigan has permanently lost custody of 24 animals found in poor conditions at her home. She faces charges of drug possession and animal cruelty.

Michelle Reyntiens from Warren, aged 57, was arrested for possessing crack cocaine and keeping 20 dogs and four turtles in unsanitary conditions. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office reported the findings following a search warrant executed on February 12.

Removal of Animals

The animals, which included Pomeranian/Shih Tzu dogs and Red-eared slider turtles, were taken by Macomb County Animal Control after being found needing urgent medical care.

Legal Proceedings and Consequences

A judge has ruled that Reyntiens will not regain custody of the animals. If convicted on all charges, she could face up to four years in prison. Her next court hearing is scheduled for April 26.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido emphasized the seriousness of neglecting animals, stating the importance of legal and moral responsibility towards their care.

Macomb County Animal Control is currently rehabilitating the seized animals while seeking new homes for them.
