Court Docs Reveal Live Nation Leaders Mocking Ticket Fees as "Robbing Fans Blind"

Share Post

Live Nation Entertainment is at the center of controversy as court documents reveal internal conversations about customer pricing strategies. The company recently reached a tentative settlement with the Department of Justice in an antitrust case.

Internal Messages Unveiled

The messages from 2022 involve Ben Baker and Jeff Weinhold, who manage ticketing in different regions. They discuss overcharging customers through fees for parking and chair rentals, making jokes about the practice. Baker referred to customers as "stupid" for paying high prices.

Pricing Controversy

The discussions included charging up to $250 for VIP parking, with a tiered system for lawn parking priced at $50 to $60. Baker expressed pride in these pricing strategies.

Court Orders Release

Despite Live Nation's attempts to keep these messages private, Judge Aran Subramanian mandated their release. Federal attorneys argued that the chats provide insight into the company's pricing views.

A Live Nation spokesperson stated that the messages don't reflect the company's values, pointing out a $1 billion investment in venue improvements as evidence of their commitment to fans. However, records indicate that Baker held a senior position within the company.

Although the DOJ settlement prevents a forced sale of Ticketmaster for now, legal challenges continue, including lawsuits from 27 states such as New York, California, and Colorado.
