White House Staff Face Shoe Dilemma Over Gifts from Trump
Reports suggest President Donald Trump has been personally purchasing shoes for several White House staff members, creating a mix of amusement and anxiety among them.
Shoe Gifting Details
The Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump, 79, has been buying Florsheim brand shoes for senior officials. These American-made leather Oxfords are valued at around $145 each.
Notable recipients include Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Staff members reportedly feel uneasy about not wearing the gifted shoes.
Reactions From Officials
A female White House official noted, "All the boys have them," while another commented on the fear of not wearing them. The report confirmed that Trump pays for these shoes himself.
This isn't Trump's first involvement with footwear. Last December, he shifted a policy discussion to focus on shoe quality among his colleagues.
Shoes as a Priority
Vance described an instance where Trump interrupted to discuss improving their footwear. A third unnamed politician was also present during this exchange.
Thomas Florsheim Jr., CEO of Weyco Group and related to the company's founder, stated he was unaware of these purchases and declined further comment.
