King Charles revokes honorary titles from nine individuals
King Charles III has revoked the MBE and OBE honors from nine individuals following criminal convictions and actions that compromised the integrity of the honors system.
Reasons for Revocation
The prestigious MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) and OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) are awarded for significant contributions to society. However, these titles can be rescinded due to serious offenses, including criminal convictions or professional misconduct.
This decision by King Charles was made after thorough consideration and affects individuals found guilty of such actions.
Notable Cases
Among those affected, former Scottish rugby player Stuart Hogg lost his MBE after pleading guilty to domestic abuse charges against his estranged wife, Gillian. Originally honored in 2024 for contributions to rugby, Hogg's MBE was formally annulled after his sentencing in January 2025.
Cumbrian owl sanctuary owner Paul Allen Rose also had his MBE revoked. He was sentenced in May 2024 after admitting to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and failing to ensure animal welfare.
