An investigation in Houston, Texas, led to the arrest of a 10-year-old boy for the alleged stabbing death of 13-year-old Riley Dearmas. The child suspect has been released to his family's custody while the Harris County District Attorney's Office is considering charges.

The stabbing incident occurred during a large fight at an apartment complex on Wednesday, February 4. Houston Police stated that the fatal stabbing resulted from a physical altercation involving two groups of individuals.

Riley was honored at a memorial event on Saturday, February 8, attended by nearly 100 people. Balloons, mostly purple, Riley's favorite color, were released during the gathering. Riley's mother, Ashley DeArmas, described her as a gentle and loving soul, a dancer, and a singer.

Ashley refuted claims of self-defense by the 10-year-old suspect, stating that her daughter was not a violent person and did not deserve to die. The victim was a student at Dean Middle School, where counselors and support staff were made available to help students and families cope with the tragedy.

In a separate incident, 18-year-old Aundre Lebron Demond Matthews was arrested for fatally stabbing a 16-year-old classmate over a $21 vape pen on December 17. The school community mourned the loss and offered support to those affected.

The Houston Police Department continues to investigate the stabbing and has urged anyone with information to contact the Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
