A man has been arrested in connection with the search for Nancy Guthrie.
During the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, a California man was arrested for allegedly sending alarming messages to the family, causing public concern.
Officials clarified that the case involving the messages is separate from the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance. The man, Derrick Callella, is accused of sending ransom-style messages across state lines, leading to charges related to transmitting ransom demands and harassment via telecommunications.
While the arrest drew national attention, authorities stressed that Callella is presumed innocent. The messages are not linked to other ransom-related reports in the Arizona case, and Callella had faced legal issues unrelated to this matter, involving alleged unemployment fraud during the pandemic.
As federal officials pursued new charges related to the communications, Arizona investigators continued focusing on Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. They clarified details about missing doorbell footage and urged the public to refrain from speculation.
The Guthrie family made emotional appeals for help, cautioning against unverified claims. Law enforcement reiterated that no suspect or person of interest has been named, and updates will be based solely on confirmed evidence.
